Bridge for Learning is a student-led nonprofit organization founded by three high schoolers in the Houston area who saw a growing need in their community.
Every summer, elementary students lose their motivation and access to academic support, leading to a decline in learning. According to the study of 18 million first to sixth graders, published in the American Educational Research Journal, students lose up to 40% of a school year’s learning in just under three months of summer break. This loss of learning not only decelerates academic progress in the long run, but also leads to difficulties when students enter the new school year.
In order to meet this challenge, Bridge for Learning offers free, 1:1 virtual tutoring for elementary students. By connecting students regularly with high school tutors through supportive online sessions, we help young students build confidence and strengthen foundational skills for the upcoming year.
